Got a few things I wanna say....

“Be yourself,” said Oscar Wilde. “Everyone else is taken.” Wise words.

The same can be said of blogs, I would guess; it’s all been done before. So, in the final analysis, one can only write about what one knows. I tell everyone that the only things I know are words and people. Now, that’s a little simplistic, because I clearly know quite a bit, but they are the things I do best.

“Lan-gwa-jee” is the name of this blog, and it comes from a lame attempt to make my mother laugh–it’s an alternate pronunciation of the word “language,” and it made Mom chuckle. (Mom was my first fan.)

In this space, I’m going to talk about whatever is at the forefront of my mind: that could be film, literature, some social ill that is bugging me, odd words and phrases and where they originate (or how they’re used), or just about anything that deals with words or people…since those are (say it with me) what I do best.

The first few postings will be some of the things I’ve been writing in the past 40-50 years. Yeah, I’m old, and while I’ve been doing everything from selling cars, to running an auto parts dock, to performing Shakespeare, to teaching high school English and Theatre and Debate, to delivering flowers, to tending bar, I’ve been writing all those years as well. Some of it sucks, of course, and may never see the light of day, but I’ve occasionally written something that I’ve actually liked. Those will show up here and there, but I’ll start with a column of sorts that I’ve been tinkering with since the early 2000s. I’ll weave in some newer content as well, but I just wanted to start posting this stuff somewhere. I’ve always been too chicken to actually try and get published.

But that’s what I have to offer in my blog: myself, the way I see things–no one else can do me and my thoughts like I can. When Maureen (pictured below alongside our pets) and I moved up here, this was one of my goals. We, along with our small, unglasslike menagerie, live in northern Michigan, a bit more than a stone’s throw from Torch Lake, and I at long last am putting it out there.

Feel free to subscribe, and comment if you wish. Thanks for stopping by!
